LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech softball junior outfielder Kelly Rhyne was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VI second team on Thursday after a successful 2004 season in the classroom as well as on the field.
The Coppell, Texas, native joined 21 other players from the region as they were selected by the area's collegiate sports information directors. An Exercise & Sport Science major, Rhyne compiled a 3.77 GPA this year while balancing the busy schedule of a student-athlete. In the field, she was one the team's leaders offensively, compiling a .339 average with three home runs and 27 RBI.
Earlier this week, Rhyne was honored along with five other Lady Raiders and the Big 12 Conference announced its All-Big 12 and Academic All-Big 12 teams. Rhyne was the only Tech player to be named to both squads, as she was selected first team All-Big 12 and first team Academic All-Big 12.
