
Big 12 Softball Tournament Up Next for Lady Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas - After a week off and a split in its last Big 12 series, Texas Tech softball is going through its final preparations for the Big 12 Softball Tournament at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City this week, May 12-15.
The Lady Raiders (22-35; 2-16 Big 12) enter the tournament as the No. 10 seed and will take on the seventh-seeded Kansas Jayhawks in one of Wednesday's play-in games. The winner will move on the to double elimination portion of the tournament and will take on second-seeded Texas A&M.
This season, Tech is third in Big 12 in hitting during conference games with a .254 team batting average. Senior Elyssa Sigala has been a force at the plate for the Lady Raiders this season. The Salinas, Calif., native leads the team with 11 home runs and 34 RBI and currently leads the Big 12 with 15 doubles and 39 walks this season. Junior Kelly Rhyne paces the team in batting average for the second straight season, posting a .345 clip at the plate this season, to go along with 27 RBI.
The Jayhawks come to Oklahoma City 31-26-1 overall with a 7-11 Big 12 record. Kansas swept a two-game series from Tech in Lawrence, Kan., earlier this season. Shortstop Destiny Frankenstein leads the team with a .278 average and 23 RBI. In the circle for Kansas, senior Kara Pierce has posted a 17-11 record with a 1.74 ERA and freshman Kassie Humphreys is 14-11 with a 1.59 ERA.
