Men's Golf Ties For Third At The Prestige

LUBBOCK, Texas - The 24th-ranked Texas Tech men's golf team edged out No.14 BYU and No.27 Pepperdine to finish in a third-place tie at The Prestige in La Quinta, Calif., today. Senior Shaun Melville finished in a tie for third to lead the Red Raiders in the individual leader board, which saw three total Red and Black golfers in the top 25.

Melville fired off an opening round one-over before ending the first-day of competition with a second-round 77. The senior recovered his stroke in the third round posting a two-under 70, tying his career-lowest round, to finish the competition four-over-par, 220. Melville's third-place finish marks the senior's career-best finish, the previous being a tie for fourth that he set earlier this year.

Following the senior is junior Andrew Dresser in a tie tenth with a three-round score of 227. Dresser's tie for tenth is his 11th top-10 finish of his career, a feat he accomplished at this tournament behind round scores of 80-74-73. The final Red Raider to find the top 25 was junior Nicolas Allain in a tie for 22nd. Allain carded a 77-80-74-231 three-round score to finish 15-over-par.

Junior William Haddrell and freshman Tyler Symons round out the last of the competing Red Raiders in a tie for 499h and 76th, respectively. Haddrell tabbed a two-day score of 239, 23-over-par, behind rounds of 81-80-78. Symons posted rounds of 81-89-80 to finish The Prestige 34-over-par, 250.

UCLA (904) took the overall team title with a nine-stroke lead over UC-Davis (913) in second place. Tied for third with Tech (917) was host UC-Irvine (917), followed by Oklahoma (922) in fifth.

The Individual title went to Erik Hill of UC-Davis who led his team to a second-place finish overall with a 217 three-round score.

The Red Raiders will be back in action this coming weekend at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rock Face, Ga., which will take place Nov. 5-7.
