
Texas Tech Softball Concludes Fall Tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team has concluded its fall tournament with a two-day record of 5-0-1. The Lady Raiders won all three of their games today defeating Dodge City 8-4 and Eastern 3-1, 4-3. Senior Lisa Lawler sent a ball soaring over the left field fence for a two run homerun in the second game. For the day, Tech's pitchers held their opponents to 12 hits and five runs, striking out 18 and walking nine batters.
Game 1: Texas Tech vs. Dodge City
After starting the game with three up, three down for Dodge City, the Lady Raiders were able to put their first runs on the board when senior Kelly Rhyne drove in freshman Devin Zaragosa and freshman Jennifer Bowers. Dodge City responded with only one run to start the second inning and would score their only other runs in the third.
The Lady Raiders dominated the fourth inning scoring six runs. Starting the scoring was freshman Jennifer Corkin who laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Bowers. Lawler hit a single up the middle allowing sophomore Heather Parker to score. Sophomore Natalie Kula followed up next with a double up the middle scoring Rhyne. Freshman Montana Patin continued the scoring and drove a single up the middle scoring Lawler. Sophomore Brandy Moulin hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Kula time to cross home plate. Freshman Whitney Riley laid a hit down the left side line scoring Patin.
Tech's points were left unanswered and the game ended after the top of the sixth with a victory for Tech and the score 8-4.
Game 2: Texas Tech vs. Eastern
Eastern's solo homerun accounted for their only score as the Lady Raiders went on to win 3-1. In the third inning, Tech's Riley reached first on a fielder's choice allowing Bowers to score. Eastern went on to score their only run in the next inning but Tech would strike again in the fifth inning as Lawler homered to left field scoring Heather Parker.
The game ended after the top of the seventh.
Game 3: Texas Tech vs. Eastern
Neither team scored until the fourth inning when Eastern scored three runs. For Tech, Corkin drove in Heather Parker putting one run up in the fourth. Bowers led off the fifth inning with a double to centerfield. Then Riley placed a hit on the left line allowing Bowers to score.
Tech scored again in the sixth inning when Rhyne hit a double to left field scoring Heather Parker. Corkin then followed by hitting straight up the middle letting Rhyne jog in for the score giving Tech their first lead of the game.
The Lady Raiders were able to hold off Eastern and clench the 4-3 win.
