Lady Raider Softball Announces Fall Recruiting Class

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head softball coach Bobby Reeves released today the names of four student athletes who will join the Lady Raider softball program in 2003-2004. Whitney Riley, Montana Patin, Jennifer Bowers and Jennifer Corkin make up the signees for the fall recruiting period.
Montana Patin is an outfielder from Cypress Creek High School in Houston, Texas, where she garnered many individual awards for her achievements on the field. Patin was named Honorable Mention All-District in 2001. Following up her outstanding 2001 campaign, Patin proved to once again be a force on the diamond achieving All-District status as she was named to second team All-District. Adding to her already impressive high school career, Patin was elected to first team All-District in 2003 and for the third consecutive year was honored with the 110% Softball Award. During the 2003 campaign she also placed 25th in Gold Nationals.
Whitney Riley is a pitcher who also has seen significant time at first base and in the outfield. The Southlake, Texas, native was hailed as the Dallas Morning News first team All-Area pitcher and Fort Worth Star Telegram first team All-Area Pitcher in 2003. She was also recognized as District 7-5A MVP while leading her team to an Area Championship. During the 2003 season she posted an impressive 26-6 record with a 0.27 ERA while amassing 286 strikeouts. In 2002 she was equally impressive, as she was named District 6-4A MVP and UIL All-State Utility player. During the 2002 season, Riley struck out 175 batters en route to posting a 19-4 record with a 0.16 ERA. Riley is also a member of the National Honor Society and Who's Who Among American High School Students.
Jennifer Bowers will join the Red Raiders in 2004 as a middle infielder and outfielder. Bowers is a product of Deer Park High School in Deer Park, Texas, where she was a letter winner three times. During her first season on varsity, she was honored as Newcomer of the Year in 2002 as well first team All-District. In 2003, she added to her remarkable resume garnering first team All-District for the second straight year, she was also named 2003 Offensive Player of the Year and All District Academic Award.
Rounding out the 2003 signing class is a Jennifer Corkin. Corkin is a native of Glendale, Arizona, where she attended Westview High School. She is an outstanding player who is capable of playing both at first base and catcher and will be a welcome addition to the Red Raider softball program.
The Lady Raiders will kick off the 2004 season on February 6th when they travel to San Marcos, Texas, to battle Texas A&M Corpus Christi in tournament play.
