Tech Softball To Host Tournament This Weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raider softball team will host the Texas Tech Softball Classic this weekend at the newly finished Rocky Johnson Field.
The tournament will be round-robin format with Tech playing at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 3 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Sunday.
"There are a lot of new faces on the squad this year, so these games give you a chance to look at how the new team works together," said softball coach Bobby Reeves. "These games will also give us an idea of what areas we need to work on before the spring."
In addition to seven incoming freshmen there are two junior college transfers, Esmerelda Perez, California Junior College Player of the Year last year, and Christy Robles, also from California.
The 2002 squad will be led by three seniors in outfielder Eva Harshman, infielder Rebecca Eiman and first baseman Carmen Grindel.
Admission to the tournament is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
