LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team fell to the Colorado Buffaloes today, 4-3 at Nautilus Fitness Center in Lubbock. The Red Raiders drop to 6-3, 2-3 in the Big 12. Colorado improves to 5-5, 1-0 in league play.
Tech started out the day winning the doubles point by defeating Colorado in the No. 1 and 2 position. The deadly duo of Irina Tereschenko and Beverly Dawson defeated Karoline Graeubig and Morgan Sall in the No. 1 position, 8-2. They improve to 8-1, 4-1 in the Big 12. In the No. 2 position, Kendall Brooks and Barbara Schraml defeated Dominique Lempene and Lauren Carey, 8-3. Brooks and Schraml earned their first win of the year improving to 1-3, 1-3 in league play.
In singles action, Colorado won the top four positions in straight sets. Freshman Stephanie Mueller defeated Sarah Austin, 6-4, 6-0, 10-8 in the No. 5 position for her first win of the year improving to 1-3, 1-3 in the Big 12. In the fall she went 6-3 where she competed in the finals at the Baylor Classic and Houston Fall Classic. In the No. 6 position Dana Giles won her third match of the season by defeating Lauren Carey in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. She improves to 3-2, 2-2 in league play.
The Red Raiders return to action Saturday, March 10 when the squad will travel to Manhattan, KS, to battle the Kansas State Wildcats.
