Tech Falls To No. 45 Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Today the Texas Tech women's tennis team dropped its third straight match to 45th-ranked Kansas State, 6-1, in Manhattan, Kan., at the Aheam Field House. The Red Raiders fall to 6-4, 2-4 in Big 12 action. The Wildcats improve to 5-4, 2-0 in league play.
Tech lost the doubles point by losing all three matches. Freshman Irina Tereschenko and Beverly Dawson opened the No. 1 position with a 4-1 lead, but Eva Novotna and Alena Jecminkova of Kansas State battled back to win 8-6. Tereschenko and Dawson fall to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in league play.
The match of the day in singles action came at the No. 1 position as the Red Raiders' Tereschenko rallied from a set down to defeat Alena Jecminkova, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(5). Jecminkova won the first set and went up 2-1 in the second before Tereschenko won five of the next six games to split sets. In the third set, Jecminkova served trailing 5-6 and 0-30 but rallied to force a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Jecminkova quickly went up 4-1 only to see Tereschenko rally to win six of the last seven points and the match. She improves to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in Big 12 action.
Kansas State won the remainder of the matches in singles action in straight sets.
The Red Raiders return to the Lone Star State on Monday, March 12 in Dallas, Texas, to take-on the SMU Mustangs.
