LUBBOCK, Texas - Freshman outside hitter Kelly Johnson tallied 16 kills and head coach Jeff Nelson earned his 150th career win as the Red Raiders pummeled the Oklahoma Sooners 3-0 (30-17, 30-16, 30-15) on Saturday night at the United Spirit Arena.
With the win, Texas Tech improves to 16-10 overall and 7-8 in the Big 12 while Oklahoma falls to 2-26 overall and 1-14 in the league.
Oklahoma managed a tie at four points in all three games but that was as close as they would get as the Red Raiders hit an impressive .443 while holding Oklahoma to just .101 in the three-game sweep. Texas Tech took a 2-0 lead into the intermission and sealed the match with a dominating 30-15 win in game-three.
Freshman Kelly Johnson put up a match-high 16 kills while Heather Hughes-Justice was close behind with 11 kills and 14 digs. Senior setter Skydra Orzen led the Texas Tech offense with an outstanding 45 assists.
Texas Tech will put it 2001 post-season hopes on the line on Wednesday night when they play host to the Missouri Tigers at the United Spirit Arena. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
