Volleyball Wins Again, Edges Kansas 3-2

LAWRENCE, Kansas - The Texas Tech volleyball team found themselves in yet another close Big 12 Conference match and was able to overcome a 1-2 deficit to defeat the Kansas Jayhawks 3-2, Saturday evening.
Texas Tech (15-1, 4-1) won the first game 15-11 but fell victim to a Kansas offensive explosion and lost the next two games 5-15, 7-15. Tech was able to mount a comeback and win game-four 15-12 to send the game to rally scoring.
The Red Raiders dominated the Jayhawks in the fifth game and closed out the match with a 15-6 win. Senior Colleen Smith led the way with 24 kills while sophomore Melissa McGehee finished with 23. Junior Heather Hughes-Justice led the defensive effort for Tech as she tallied 17 kills while sophomore Ann Romjue finished with 16.
Texas Tech will open a two-match homestand beginning with Oklahoma this Wednesday night beginning at 7 p.m. Tech will play host to Colorado on Saturday at 1 p.m. prior to the Tech-Baylor (Homecoming) football game which begins at 6 p.m. All Texas Tech matches are played in United Spirit Arena.
