On the night that they were honored, Texas Tech's seniors combined for three home runs and six RBI in the 8-6 victory at Dan Law Field over UT-San Antonio. On the mound, Kevin Tracey, also a senior, picked up his sixth save of the year for Blake McGinley. With the win, the Red Raiders improved to 31-20 on the season.
After both teams scored single runs in the first inning, Texas Tech put four scores on the board in the third on four hits. Scott Holzhauer and Chaz Eiguren provided the punch with a pair of two-run shots. Eiguren's blast carried over the lights in left-center field. The homers were Holzhauer's sixth and Eiguren's 11th of the season.
After UT-San Antonio scored a run in the fourth and sixth innings to close the gap to 5-3, Tech added two more in the bottom of the sixth. Jason Rainey belted his 11th home run of the season and three batters later, Mark Austry added to the home run count with his fourth of the season.
Rainey extended his season-high hitting streak to 11 games after going 2-4 Tuesday night. During the streak he is hitting .438 with seven home runs. He has also homered in five of the last six games.
The Roadrunners came to within one run at 7-6 in the eighth while chasing McGinley. The left-hander went seven-plus innings before handing the ball to Tracey. Tracey retired all six batters he faced to earn his sixth save of the season.
The Red Raiders and Roadrunners will play again tomorrow at Dan Law Field. First pitch for the final home game of the season will be at 3 p.m.
