NORMAN, Okla. - The Texas Tech Red Raiders softball team dropped the second game of a weekend series to the No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners in Norman this afternoon by a 7-1 score. The loss drops Tech to 14-30 on the season, 3-6 in the Big 12.
Tech fell down early in the game, surrendering three runs in the first inning. In the fourth inning, with a swirling wind turning routine fly balls into difficult plays, the Sooners hit three doubles and notched four more runs.
The Red Raiders struggled at the plate. The team did not collect its first hit until the fifth inning when Paula Workman hit a hard liner through the middle of the infield. In the sixth inning the Red Raiders put together a rally when Tiffany Harrington nailed a double to left field with one out. Sandy Butler laid down a bunt single to move Harrington over. She would score on a passed ball two batters later to account for Texas Tech's only run of the day.
Dana Yocum took the loss for the Red Raiders and falls to 3-9 on the season. The 10 hits for Oklahoma is the most hits the Raiders have given up in conference play this season. On the bright side for Tech, the error free game was their third consecutive game without an error, the longest such streak of the season for the Red Raiders.
