Tech Wins Final Game Of Weekend Series

The Texas Tech baseball team closed a wild weekend series against New Mexico State with a 16-4 win on Sunday at Dan Law Field. In the three games, the two teams combined to score 83 runs on 81 hits. On Sunday, it was all Texas Tech as the Red Raiders scored in the first, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth innings.
For the third straight game, Texas Tech scored in the first inning with four runs on three hits. Marco Cunningham lead off the game with a walk and scored on Scott Holzhauer's double down the right field line. Eiguren then singled to score Holzhauer. The final two runs of the inning came on Eiguren scoring on a pass ball and David O'Keeffe scoring on Cory Sellars ground out.
In the fifth inning, the Aggies scored three times, but Texas Tech answered with seven runs in the bottom of the inning. The highlight of the inning was a Sellars two-run homer to right field. He finished the day going 2-4 with a double and home run.
Chaz Eiguren went 3-4 today with a pair of doubles and four RBI while Scott Holzhauer was 2-5 with three runs and three RBI.
Left-hander Matt Harbin picked up his first win of the season with five innings of work. He allowed three runs on four hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Cory Metzler finished the game with four innings of relief. He allowed just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out four.
Texas Tech will be in action again on Tuesday when they play West Texas A&M at Dan Law Field. The University of Southern California will be in Lubbock for a three-game set starting on Friday at 4 p.m.
