Zlebnik Loses at NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Texas Tech freshman women's tennis player Zana Zlebnik was defeated in the second round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships Tuesday in Notre Dame, Ind. The first ever Texas Tech women's singles player to be invited to the single elmination NCAA Championships, Zlebnik was defeated by Kansas' Kylie Hunt 6-2, 6-3.
Zlebnik advanced to the second round with a 6-4, 6-1 first round victory Monday against Karin Palme of Arizona State. She ends her season with a 19-6 overall singles record.
Zlebnik was one of 64 individual players selected to compete in the 1998 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships. She earned Big 12 Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year honors and was selected to the All Big 12 Conference First Team for both singles and doubles (with No. 1 singles partner sophomore Amanda Earhart). She completed her first season in Big 12 play with an 8-3 conference record and was named the Big 12's first-ever Player of the Month.
