Softball Splits Doubleheader With Iowa State

The Texas Tech softball team left Ames, Iowa today after splitting a doubleheader with the Iowa State Cyclones.
Iowa State picked up its first Big 12 Conference win of the season after posting a 4-0 shutout of the Red Raiders. The Cyclones used a two-run fourth inning to solidify the victory after connecting on just one hit and no errors by Texas Tech. Iowa State was led by catcher Erin Woods who went 2 for 2 while bringing in one runner. The Raiders were led by Sandy Butlers 3 for 4 performance at the plate while Kim Martinez led the defensive effort with five assists. Sophomore pitcher Amanda Renfro (18-13) suffered her 13th loss of the season.
In game-two, Texas Tech used some of the momentum it started to gain at the end of game-one by shutting out the Cyclones 1-0. The Raiders got the games lone run in the top of the fourth inning when Aimee Weathers slapped a centerfield double that brought in senior third basemen Kim Martinez. Senior pitcher Emily Hayes brought her season to record to 11-10 after giving up just three hits while striking out three Cyclone batters.
Texas Tech will face the University of Nebraska on Monday in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
