Las Cruces, N.M. -
The Texas Tech softball team went to Las Cruces, New Mexico, looking to regroup after last weekend's losses to conference rival Baylor but ended up splitting the series with the Roadrunners 3-1, and 0-2.
In the first game of the double-header, the Red Raiders (24-21) seemed to have regrouped offensively scoring three runs off five hits while committing no errors. The Raiders were led by Eva Harshman's two hits and one RBI. Kim Martinez got things going early in the fist inning when she connected on a left field double(13th on the season) to bring home Sandy Butler and put Tech ahead 1-0. Tech would get two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to bring the final score to 3-1. Sophomore pitcher Amanda Renfro brought her season record to 15-12 with the win.
In the night-cap, Texas Tech was plagued by three costly errors that would cost them the game in extra innings as the Roadrunners cruised to a 2-0 victory in nine innings. The Roadrunners tallied just two hits on the evening while Texas Tech slapped out seven hits but were unable to overcome two Paula Workman errors. New Mexico State was led by Barbie Eitel's two run homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning. The two-run homer was just the second hit on the evening for the Roadrunners.
Texas Tech beat New Mexico State earlier in the season at home 5-2, 5-4.
The Red Raiders after taking the Easter weekend off will return home for a doubleheader against the University of Texas San-Antonio at 1:00p.m./3:00p.m.
