No. 20 Texas Defeats Texas Tech in Volleyball

LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 10 Texas used phenomenal .336 hitting to defeat Texas Tech 15-10, 17-15, 15-9 in volleyball Wednesday at Lubbock's Coronado High School. The loss drops Texas Tech to 13-9 overall and 2-7 in the Big 12 while No. 10 Texas improves to 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the Big 12.
It wasn't easy for the Longhorns as Texas Tech threatened to win game two several times and battled Texas to the end. The Red Raiders hit an outstanding .287 (75-25-174) for the match, totaled 75 kills to Texas' 68 kills and matched the Longhorns in digs 56-56.
The difference came in service errors. Texas Tech commited 10 service errors to Texas' zero.
Texas Tech senior Lori Garber nailed home 20 kills in the three-game match, a total that ranks second on the all-time school record list for kills in a three-game match. The middle blocker also hit a phenomenal .500 (20-4-32) and added four blocks. Freshman Ann Romjue finished with 16 kills in 46 atttempts along with a match-high 16 digs, junior Colleen Smith hit .448 (14-1-29) with 14 kills, freshman Jenny Donohoo added 12 kills and 14 digs and sophomore setter Skydra Orzen notched 63 assists and 12 digs.
Texas was led by Kathy Tilson's 21 kills and .311 hitting percentage followed by Erin Aldrich's 16 kills (.433 pct.).
Texas Tech is next in action on Saturday as it travels to Missouri for a 7 p.m. match in Columbia.
