Darrion Williams signed with Texas Tech on August 7, 2026 to return to the program where he will join the Red Raiders for the 2026-27 season. Williams transfers back to Tech after playing last season at NC State where he led the Wolfpack with 14.0 points per game along with adding 151 rebounds, 92 assists and 35 steals.
A 5th year forward, Williams played two seasons at Texas Tech after beginning his college career at Nevada as a freshman. Williams helped lead the Red Raiders to the 2025 NCAA Elite Eight and earned All-Big 12 First Team honors during his junior season (2024-25) where he averaged 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. As a sophomore (2023-24), Williams led the Red Raiders with nine double-doubles, 7.5 rebounds per game and finished his first season in Lubbock with 11.4 points per game where he earned All-Big 12 Third Team and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team honors. During the 2025 NCAA Tournament, Williams led the Red Raiders by averaging 21.0 points per game, including going for 23 points in the Elite Eight matchup against Florida and scoring a season-high 28 points against Drake in the NCAA Tournament Second Round. Among his career highlights as a Red Raider, Williams went off for 30 points in a home win over No. 6 Kansas where he went 12-for-12 from the field with four 3-pointers during his sophomore season.
Through four seasons in college basketball, Williams has produced 1,601 points, 825 rebounds, 387 assists, 163 steals and 14 double-doubles. During his two seasons at Texas Tech, Williams averaged 13.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
Williams earned All-ACC Honorable mention last season at NC State. He scored a career-high 32 points against UNC Greensboro and finished the season scoring 20-plus points in eight games. His final game at NC State came in the 2026 NCAA Tournament where he went for 21 points in a loss to Texas. Williams finished the season with 78 made 3-pointers (40.4 percent) in 33 games played.
A Sacramento, California native, Williams began his collegiate career at Nevada where he earned 2022-23 Mountain West Freshman of the Year after averaging 7.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. A four-star prep player at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Williams was named the Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year following his senior season after averaging 15.2 points,10.1 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game. Before transferring to Bishop Gorman, Williams played two varsity seasons at Capital Christian in his hometown of Sacramento where he averaged 11.2 and 7.8 rebounds as a sophomore.

- Williams finished his junior season averaging 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game… He led the Red Raiders by averaging 21.0 points per NCAA Tournament game, including leading the team with 23 points against No. 1 Florida and with a season-high 28 points in the win over Drake in the Second Round… Williams had 27 double-figure scoring performances during the season with nine games of 20 or more – going for 20-plus in the final three games… He earned All-Big 12 First Team honors in a season where he had a season-high 11 assists against Northwestern State and recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds against Northern Colorado in non-conference play… A junior from Sacramento, California, Williams has played 100 games in his collegiate career and now has 1,140 points, 674 rebounds, 295 assists and 128 steals
2023-24 (Sophomore):
- Led the Red Raiders with nine double-doubles and 7.5 rebounds per game
- Averaged 11.4 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game
- Within the Big 12, his nine double-doubles were the second most and his 7.5 rebounds per game ranked third
- Started all 18 conference games, finishing with 13.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per Big 12 game
- Scored in double-double figures in 19 games, had 10 double-figure rebounding performances
- In Big 12 play, Williams shot 52.5% from the field, 52.3% on 3-pointers and was 88.0% from the free-throw line
- Scored a career-high 30 points in a 79-50 win over No. 6 Kansas after going 12-for-12 from the field, 4-for-4 on 3-pointers, and 2-for-2 at the free-throw line
- His 12-for-12 performance established a new Texas Tech program record and matched the Big 12 record for makes without a miss
- Had 11 rebounds in the performance against KU and earned AP National Player of the Week honors... His four 3-pointers established a new career-high
- Starter in 33 of 34 games on the Tech schedule - played all 40 minutes in three games (NC State, at WVU, at UCF) - averaged 34.3 minutes per Big 12 game
- Had a career-high 14 rebounds in a non-conference win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the third game of the season and a season-high six assists in games against NC State, UT Arlington, and Sam Houston
- Provided 13 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Michigan at the Battle 4 Atlantis... Finished the game with five offensive rebounds and was 3-for-5 on 3-pointers
- In the NCAA Tournament First Round, Williams had 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and no turnovers against NC State
- Had a streak of 10 straight games scoring in double figures to close out the regular season, starting with 17 points at Baylor and then scoring 16 points against the Bears in the regular-season finale at home where he was 6-for-7 from the field and also had 11 rebounds
- Career-high five steals at Oklahoma State when he also had 18 points, nine rebounds and two steals
- Finished the season shooting 131-for-265 (49.4%) from the field, 44-for-96 (45.8%) on 3-pointers and was 70-for-80 (87.5%) at the free-throw line
- Helped Tech to a 15-2 home record... In home games, averaged 12.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game... Started all 17 home games as a sophomore
- Began Texas Tech career with 14 points and seven rebounds in season-opener against Texas A&M-Commerce
- Enters his junior season with 638 points, 488 rebounds, 172 assists, and 85 steals through 66 games in his career
PRIOR TO TEXAS TECH: Named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year in 2022-23 season after earning Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year following his senior year of high school… Williams averaged 7.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game as a freshman at Nevada… Played his final two seasons of high school basketball at Bishop Gorman HS in Las Vegas, Nevada where he was the Southern 5A Co-Player of the Year to go along with being named the state's player of the year… At Nevada, Williams led the team in rebounding and finished his freshman season with 11 games in double-figure scoring and with 10 double-figure rebounding performances… Recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds against New Mexico… In the NCAA Tournament, Williams had 12 points and five rebounds in a loss to Arizona State… Produced a career-high four 3-pointers in that game, going 4-for-4 from beyond the arc… Started 30 of 33 games for the Wolf Pack and averaged over 30 minutes per game… Finished the season shooting 36-for-99 (36.4 percent) on 3-pointers and pulled down 1.2 offensive rebounds per game… Scored a career-high 16 points in a game against Fresno State where he was 4-for-5 from the field, 2-of-2 on 3-pointers and 6-for-7 at the free-throw line… Finished the season with 90 assists, including a season-high seven against Air Force and had 17 games with three or more assists… First-ever Nevada player to be named Mountain West Freshman of the Year in a season where he was a six-time Mountain West Freshman of the Week selection… His 7.3 rebounds per game ranked third in the Mountain West Conference.
PREP: Entered college as a four-star recruit by ESPN after averaging 15.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 4.0 steals per game at Bishop Gorman…. His team advanced to the NIAA 5A title game and was ranked as high as fourth nationally during the season. Before transferring, Williams played two varsity seasons at Capital Christian in his hometown of Sacramento where he averaged 11.2 and 7.8 rebounds as a sophomore.

Hero and why: My brother, Leon Williams V. Junior as we all call him, because growing up always watching his games and following him around as the team mascot was the reason I fell in love with basketball. He has always been there for me as a mentor and a best friend. He’s been through a lot throughout his basketball career and wasn’t able to live out his dream because of injury. I am doing it for the both of us.
