Tech Soccer begins season at No. 23 in USC poll

The Red Raiders begin the season ranked inside the top-25 for the second time in three seasons
KANSAS CITY – Fresh off a strong season in 2025 that featured another NCAA Tournament Round of 32 appearance, Texas Tech Soccer was ranked No. 23 overall in the Preseason United Soccer Coaches Association poll, the organization announced Tuesday.
The preseason ranking marks the second time in the last three season's that Texas Tech has begun the season ranked inside the top-25.
Tech is one of five teams featured from the Big 12 Conference as TCU checks in at No. 6 overall. Colorado (No. 13), Kansas (15) and West Virginia (20) are the other four Big 12 teams to crack the preseason top-25.
BYU and Baylor are the first and second teams amongst the group receiving votes.
The Red Raiders return an exciting core in 2026 that includes a trio of All-Big 12 Preseason honorees in Kylie Bahr, Eleanor Hayes and Taylor Zdrojewski. Also back this season for Tech is
All-Big 12 Freshman Team honorees Raleigh Greason and Emma Torres.
Tech's returning core was also bolstered through both the high school and portal ranks, as Tech brought in three Power Four transfers this offseason including two-time national champion Addie Todd from Florida State, BYU transfer Abbi Sine and Penn State transfer Emma Fassora.
Todd, who won the 2023 and 2025 NCAA College Cup with the Seminoles arrives at Tech with 30 career starts and 21 career wins and 11 all-time clean sheets. Todd was a 2024 All-ACC Tournament honoree after making a pair of PK saves in FSUs ACC Tournament Semifinals win over No. 3 Wake Forest and made four saves in the title game win over No. 8 UNC.
Also included in the batch of newcomers are a pair of top-100 recruits in center back Reese Liner and midfielder Lauren Alvarez as well as two-time Class 6A State Champion Madi Patterson. Tech's 2026 class was ranked No. 14 in the country by PrepSoccer.
Texas Tech opens its 2026 season on Thursday night (Aug. 6) at home with an exhibition contest against New Mexico. First touch from the John Walker Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m.
