DCTF highlighted Cameron Dickey as the state’s top running back and Ben Roberts as the top linebacker
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech was well represented Wednesday on the Preseason All-Texas Teams that were announced by Dave Campbell's Texas Football as part of the rollout of its annual summer magazine.
The Red Raider led all FBS schools in the state of Texas with 12 total selections, one more than Texas in second place and four more than Texas A&M. The vast majority of Texas Tech's selections were on the first team with four on each side of the ball. Texas Tech also had DCTF's top running back in the state in Cameron Dickey and the top linebacker in Ben Roberts.
Dickey was joined on the first team by tight end Terrance Carter Jr., offensive lineman Howard Sampson and running back J'Koby Williams, who was selected in a utility role due to his return ability on special teams. Fellow offensive lineman Jacob Ponton was tabbed to the second team, giving Texas Tech an All-Texas selection at both tackle spots.
Roberts, meanwhile, highlighted seven total All-Texas picks on the defensive side of the ball as he was joined on the first team by defensive lineman A.J. Holmes Jr., outside linebacker Trey White and cornerback Brice Pollock. The second team featured another newcomer to the outside linebacker room in Adam Trick as well as linebackers Austin Romaine and John Curry.
The Red Raiders grace the cover of DCTF's highly-anticipated summer edition, featuring the likes of head coach Joey McGuire, general manager James Blanchard, Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt, Board of Regents Chairman Cody Campbell and then Roberts. The nearly 400-page magazine is expected to hit newsstands in the coming days, spotlighting not only the FBS and FCS programs in the Lone Star State but more than 1,500 high school programs.
Texas Tech previously had 19 selections to the Preseason All-Big 12 Teams and All-America selections compiled by Phil Steele earlier this month. The Red Raiders boasted seven preseason All-America candidates by the publication with Carter on the first team, Holmes, Roberts and Pollock on the second team alongside Williams and then offensive lineman Sheridan Wilson and kicker Stone Harrington on the fourth team.
The official Preseason All-Big 12 Team, as voted on by media members who regularly cover the conference, will be announced by the league office on July 6 ahead of the annual Media Days event. Texas Tech will be part of the July 7 contingent who meet with media from across the country at The Star in Frisco.
