Texas Tech women wrap up competition in Fayetteville

Temitope Adeshina will be going to her third-straight outdoor national meet
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The women's Texas Tech track and field team wrapped its competition at the NCAA West First Rounds Saturday evening at John McDonnell Field.

Temitope Adeshina and Evelyn Lavielle kicked off the competition for Tech on the final day as the duo punched their tickets to Eugene in the high jump. Both cleared 1.87m (6-1 ½) as Adeshina placed first overall with Lavielle taking fourth. Adeshina was one of two jumpers in the field that did not have a miss. For Lavielle, the height was a new outdoor PB.
McKenzie Davis waited about an hour to find out she would make the cut for nationals. In flight three of the discus, Davis threw a SB 54.72m (179-6) on her final attempt, ultimately finishing 10th after the fourth flight was done.
The 4x100 team of Alyssa Colbert, Olayinka Olajide, Anita Afrifa and Adriane Nwonumah combined for a time of 43.53 to finish second in the heat for the auto qualifier. In the first heat of the steeplechase, Lily Mather finished third, grabbing the final auto qualifier for nationals with a time of 10:19.01.
Over in the short sprints, four Red Raiders were able to punch their tickets within a 30-minute span. Symoria Adkins (12.82, +1.5w) and Tonie-Ann Forbes (12.92, +1.8w) in the 100m hurdles, Alyssa Colbert (11.07, +1.5w) in the 100m and Collinique Farrington (51.89) in the 400m.
Fanny Arendt posted a 2:01.42 in the 800m as she placed second in her heat en route to the auto qualifier. The time goes down as No. 2 for Tech. Vanessa Balde and Lovina Ewusi will represent Tech in the 400m hurdles. Running in the same heat, Balde placed second at 55.77, while Ewusi went 55.98. Balde gets the auto-bid as Ewusi goes through on time.
In the final field event of the night, the triple jump, Tamiah Washington punched her ticket with a lifetime best jump of 13.73m (45- ½) (+1.2w). Grace Oshiokpu was sitting in 15th going into her final jump then landed a mark of 13.35m (43-9 ¾) (+1.3w) to take the 11th spot in the field.
The women's 4x400 capped off the meet for Texas Tech clocking in a time of 3:28.55 (third in the heat), good for sixth overall. The team was comprised of Farrington, Mekenze Kelley, Balde and Ewusi. The time is No. 2 in Texas Tech history.
