LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 34 Texas Tech Lady Raiders dominated Kansas State on Sunday afternoon, getting a 4-0 sweep against the Wildcats at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Texas Tech (12-4, 3-1 Big 12) earned a hard-fought doubles point against Kansas State (5-5, 2-2 Big 12) to begin the match. At court one, the No. 75-ranked duo of Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy picked up a ranked victory against No. 45 Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Martaa Chogsomjav. The Lady Raiders went up 5-0 before the Wildcats won three-straight games. The Lady Raiders held serve, though, to finish the match with a 6-3 win.
At court three, Polina Sleptsova and Ella Brownback clinched the doubles point against Sasha Kyselova and Chanel Rustemova. Tech and K-State traded games until it was tied at 5-all. Then, the Lady Raiders won the next two games for the 7-5 victory. At court two, Mariia Hlahola and Elena Daskalova were locked in a battle with Varvara Bernovich and Diana Smolinska. The Lady Raiders went down 2-4 before winning three-consecutive games to lead at 5-4. K-State forced a tie at 5-5, but Tech got another win to lead at 6-5 before their match went unfinished.
Havana Kadi got the next point for the Lady Raiders, defeating Bernovich at court five in a decisive match, 6-2, 6-1, for the 2-0 advantage. At the top court, Murphy took down Maralgoo Chogsomjav with a 6-2, 6-4 score to increase the Texas Tech lead. Clinching the win was Brownback at court six when she beat Rustemova by matching, 6-2, 6-2 scores to secure the 4-0 sweep.
Up next, the Lady Raiders head to Houston to take on the Houston Cougars on Friday at 1 p.m.
