A victory in Lawrence will give the Red Raiders their second conference trophy in three years
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 7 Texas Tech women's soccer team will close out the regular season Thursday night in Lawrence versus No. 18 Kansas in search of the program's second Big 12 regular season title with a victory.
A win will declare Tech (12-1-4, 8-1-1) as the outright conference champions for the second time in program history – finished 8-0-2 in 2023, clinching on the road at Iowa State following a 1-0 victory on the final day of the regular season. The last four seasons have seen the Red Raiders finish in the top four of the standings. Kansas (12-4-2, 6-2-2) is undefeated at home in Big 12 action, making them one of four teams without a blemish – Tech, BYU and Baylor.
Last Time Out
Tech, who was ranked No. 11 at the time, defeated No. 8 Baylor 1-0 at the John Walker Soccer Complex Friday night. Gianna Gregorie netted her first career goal in the 77th minute for the game winner. She came off the bench and totaled 43 minutes with her only shot being the goal.
Rankings
In this week's rankings, the Red Raiders were slotted No. 5 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll while coming in at No. 7 in the USC/IWSOC poll.
History vs Kansas
Tech trails the all-time series 14-15-3 and will be playing Kansas on the road for the 13th time Thursday night. Both teams have split the last two meetings as the Red Raiders won 2-0 at home last season and dropped a 2-1 contest in 2024 at the Big 12 Tournament. This will be the 33rd all-time meeting between both squads.
Scenarios
At the moment, Tech sits atop the conference table with 25 points, two points clear of BYU (23) in second place. Meanwhile, Baylor and Houston are each tied for third with 22 points. BYU hosts Arizona State at home Thursday night, Baylor and Houston meet in Waco. As mentioned earlier, a win seals the conference title for Tech. If a tie were to happen, Tech will have to sit and wait for the result of the BYU game. In a loss scenario, eyes will still be on BYU and now the result of Baylor/Houston comes into play.
