The Red Raiders got a goal 19 seconds in and a second three minutes later for their sixth-straight regular season road win
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Peyton Parsons scored just 19 seconds in, while reigning Big 12 Player of the Week Taylor Zdrojewski added the game-winner just three minutes later to power No. 18 Texas Tech to a gritty 2-1 win over RV Santa Clara, Thursday night at Stevens Stadium at Buck Shaw Field.
With the win, Texas Tech (3-0-0) has now won six-straight true road regular season matches dating back to a Sept. 12, 2024 scoreless draw at TCU. Including that draw against the Frogs, Tech is now unbeaten in its last seven (6-0-1) true road contests in the regular season.
Striking in the first 10 minutes for the third-straight match, the Red Raiders raced out to the early 2-0 lead after Parsons buried her second strike of the season after the opening kick-off fell to Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week Macy Blackburn who served Alana Harry.
Calm with a pair of Santa Clara (1-2-0) defenders in her face, Harry served a bouncing ball across the goal mouth that skipped through the  six-yard box before it was slotted home on the doorstep by Parsons less than 20 seconds into the match. The assist for Blackburn was her 37th career and fourth of the young season while Harry recorded her first point of the season.
Armed with the lead, the Red Raiders quickly doubled their lead when Zdrojewski scored her fourth goal of the season just three minutes and 35 seconds into the contest. The goal came after a rising shot from Zdrojewski clanged off the crossbar and fell to Parsons.
The attacking-mid, played senior Kate Liebel, who delivered a perfect through ball that Zdrojewski buried with her left foot after taking a touch. The goal was her 14th in her last 25 matches.
Up by a pair, the Red Raiders nearly made it 3-0 twice when a pair of shots from Zdrojewski and midfielder Sam Courtwright were saved by SCUs Amaris Franco.
After the fast start, the match settled in and took on a physical tone, as the two teams traded body blows.
Midway through the 29th minute the Red Raiders got a key save for Preseason All-Big 12 Faith Nguyen that denied the Broncos their best chance of the first half. In the win, Nguyen made five saves.
Nearly 10 minutes later, the Red Raider nearly scored once again, when Freshman Raleigh Greason outraced the SCU backline and ripped a rising shot that was deflected wide by Franco.
The chance for Greason was the final of the half for either side as the Red Raiders took a 2-0 lead into the break.
After halftime, the Red Raiders saw the Broncos come out on fire, as SCUs Adee Goulden buried a bouncing rebound off a Nguyen save in the 49th minute to cut Tech's lead in half.
As the match continued to tick down, the Red Raiders and Broncos continued to counterattack one another.
Looking for the equalizer, SCUs Mailin Orozco nearly found it, but her low shot was smothered by Nguyen for one of her aforementioned five saves.
Just six seconds into the 68th minute it was once again Greason that nearly found the back of the net when she won a foot race with an SCU outside back, but the freshman's shot skipped across the mouth of the goal and over the endline for a Broncos goal kick.
After another strong diving save from Nguyen, the Red Raiders best chance to score in the second half came just moments later when Harry nearly chipped the keeper was she was in one-v-one, but her shot was saved by SCUs Ally Renyolds in the 83rd minute. Reynolds entered the match at halftime in place of Franco and made one save.
Down the final seven minutes, the Red Raiders continued to hold the ball at the corner flag earning multiple deep throw-ins before the Broncos finally got a goal kick with just three minutes and 30 seconds to play.
As SCU continued to race forward, the Red Raiders backline of Blackburn, Emilie McCartney, Molly Skurcenski and Kylie Bahr found a way to turn away the Broncos best efforts. The final clearance of the match came from Bahr who turned away a dangerous SCU run by clearing the ball over the endline for a corner kick with just 53 seconds to go.
On the ensuing corner, the ball ping-ponged through the Red Raiders 18-yard box before finally being shepherded out of bounds by Skurcenski for a deep throw in for the home side with just 25 seconds to play.
Aiming to find an attacking player along the endline, the Broncos throw in skipped off the shin of a player and out of bounds for a clock-draining goal kick that proved to be the final play of the match.
With the win, the Red Raiders improve to 32-2-6 when allowing a goal or fewer since 2023 and to 37-0-1 when scoring twice in a match. That 38-match unbeaten streak dates back to the 2022 season and includes just a road 2-2 draw against No. 6 BYU back in 2023.
UP NEXT:
