No. 13 Baylor defeats Tech in Waco

WACO, Texas – The No. 70-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders fell to the No. 13-ranked Baylor Bears by a 4-0 score on Thursday evening at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Baylor (21-8, 6-1 Big 12) took a close doubles point from Texas Tech (12-10, 2-5 Big 12) to begin the match. At court two, the duo of Devin Badenhorst and Luc Koenig got a win over Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri, 6-3.
The Red Raiders evened it up when Tyler Stewart and Takeyasu Sekiguchi defeated Zsombor Velcz and Alexandru Chirita at court three. The Red Raiders were ahead 4-1 before the Bears tied it up at 4-all. However, Tech answered back with a hold and a break for the 6-4 win.
Baylor would clinch the doubles point at court one after No. 25-ranked Marko Miladinovic and Oskar Brostrom Poulsen beat Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak. Tech took a 4-2 lead before the Bears pair tied it at 4-4. The two duos once again tied at 5-all, but Baylor would win the next two games to clinch the point and lead, 7-5.
Baylor took a 2-0 lead after Chirita defeated Ludovico Vaccari at court four by a 6-2, 6-3 score. Then, the Bears got a win at court five when Louis Bowden overtook Felipe Pagnacco, 6-0, 6-3. Clinching the match for Baylor was No. 99-ranked Velcz over Stewart at court three, 6-3, 7-5. When the match was finished, Pawlak was leading No. 39 Badenhorst in the second set, 6-5, at court one after falling in the first set before his match was abandoned.
Up next, the Red Raiders close out the regular season with a senior day match against No. 18 UCF on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
