Hurtova earns first career win
March 16, 2025 | Women's Golf
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Texas Tech sophomore Klara Hurtova picked up her first collegiate win on Sunday, as she led the Valspar Augusta Invitational field with a 5-under-par 139 after the first two rounds of action on Saturday. She was declared the individual medalist once officials canceled Sunday's final round due to heavy rains that made conditions unplayable at Forest Hills Golf Club.
On the team side, Georgia Southern (-6) won the tournament, followed by UCF (+9) finishing second, Michigan State (+11) third, Furman (+25) fourth and Texas Tech rounding out the top five.
The Valspar Augusta Invitational continues to be a special place for the Red Raiders as they have produced back-to-back individual title wins in their last two trips to the event. Texas Tech last played at the Valspar Augusta Invitational in 2019 (spring), a year the Red Raiders won the event behind a pair of future professional golfers in Sofia Garcia winning the individual title and Amy Taylor earning a Top-5 finish.
With the win on Sunday, Hurtova's sophomore season has now produced two Top-5 finishes dating back to her second-place tie at the Red Raider Invitational, Sept. 24-25, which was previously her top career finish. In one full season and a second season, which is still in progress, Hurtova owns two Top-5 finishes, two Top-10 finishes and six Top-25 finishes.
Hurtova was in first place after round one of the Valspar Augusta Invitational, firing a 3-under-par 69, and stayed atop the leaderboard after round two with a 2-under 70. She held a three-shot lead after Saturday's second round, leading Georgia Southern's Mary Miller. Her scorecard was one of four in the field of 77 that was under par in 36 holes of golf.
Texas Tech's next event will also take place in Georgia as the Red Raiders will play in the Pinetree Intercollegiate at Pinetree Country Club, March 24-25, located less than 200 miles from the Valspar Augusta Invitational. The Red Raiders will remain in the Peach State with the university's Spring Break taking place before the Pinetree Intercollegiate begins.
