No. 25 Oklahoma State defeats Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – Even though the Texas Tech Red Raiders earned a point from doubles, the No. 25-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys would win on Saturday afternoon, 4-1, at the McLeod Tennis Center.
The Red Raiders (8-10, 0-2 Big 12) collected their 12th doubles point of the season against the Cowboys (15-4, 2-0 Big 12) to open the match. Oklahoma State held the slight advantage when it took the match on court three by a 6-3 score. The Red Raiders evened the score when the No. 41-ranked duo of Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak defeated Alex Garcia and Tyler Zink at court one, 6-4, to push their dual doubles record to 12-1 on the year.
It would be Reed Collier and Takeyasu Sekiguchi who clinched the doubles point after winning against Alessio Basile and Isaac Becroft at court two. The Red Raiders and Cowboys went back-and-forth until they forced a tiebreaker. Collier and Sekiguchi went out to a 4-1 lead in the breaker, then clinched the point by winning it, 7-6 (4).
Oklahoma State would win six first sets in singles to retake the momentum, then secured the victory with wins at courts two, three, four and six to clinch the match over Tech.
When the match was finished, Pawlak and Alessio Basile were in their third set at court five. Basile took set one, 6-1, before Pawlak evened it up with a 6-3 second set. Pawlak was ahead of Basile, 3-0, in the third when his match went unfinished.
Over at court one, No. 56 Wallin and No. 18 Tyler Zink were in a battle. In an hour and 15 minute long first set, Zink was able to take it by a 7-6 (9) tiebreaker. Wallin took the 2-0 lead in the following set when his match was called. Â
Texas Tech heads to Waco, Texas to take on the Baylor Bears on Thursday, March 28 at 6 p.m.
