
Lady Raiders host Lamar for Education Day game

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are back at home with an Education Day game against the Lamar Cardinals on Tuesday, December 17 at 11:30 a.m. at the United Supermarkets Arena. Texas Tech leads the all-time series against Lamar with a perfect 11-0 record. The two teams last played on November 13, 2023 with the Lady Raiders winning by a 61-44 score.
Two former Southwest Conference teams clashed on Sunday afternoon as Texas Tech went to Fayetteville for a contest against the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Lady Raiders, who were previously 0-12 in away games at Arkansas, got their first ever win in program history in Fayetteville after defeating the Hogs by a 75-72 score. In Texas Tech's win over Arkansas, junior Bailey Maupin had her best offensive performance of the season. She shot 50 percent from the field (7-for-14) with 25 points, while adding five rebounds and a block. Maupin was able to record season bests in field goals, field goal attempts, points, rebounds, blocks, free throws and free throw attempts as she went 9-for-12 from the line. Maupin was just two points away from her career high.
The Lady Raiders are forcing 22.17 turnovers per game which ranks 29th in the NCAA and second in the conference. In addition, the Lady Raiders are holding teams to just 29.2 percent from beyond the arc and rank 47th nationally with 11.1 steals per game. The Lady Raiders have forced 20+ turnovers in eight games this season so far, and have forced at least 20 or more in six of the last eight games. The Lady Raiders currently average 5.8 blocks per game, which ranks 11th nationally and third in the Big 12. Junior Sarengbe Sanogo ranks 19th in the nation and second in the Big 12 with 23 total blocks after recording three at Arkansas.
Texas Tech is second in the Big 12 and 38th in the NCAA with 28.4 bench points per game. The Lady Raiders had their most bench points against Missouri State, totaling 47 points in the game, more than half of the total points scored by the team that game (72). Texas Tech has also scored 20 or more bench points in the last five contests.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Lamar Cardinals are 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the Southland Conference. They have wins over Texas A&M-San Antonio, Pacific, St. Thomas, UL Monroe and UTRGV. Their losses have come against Cleveland State, at SMU and at Texas. The Cardinals are currently averaging 66.6 points per game and holding opponents to 57.6 points per game. Shooting 42.3 percent from the field, Lamar totals 38.2 rebounds per game as well as 12.9 assists per game. The Cardinals are led in scoring by Akasha Davis, who averages 15.5 points per game, followed by Sabria Dean with 13.6. On the rebounding side, Davis averages a double-double as she records 10.9 boards per game, with Dean right behind at 5.3.
