
Abilene Christian up next for Lady Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas – After moving to 4-0 on the season, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders will host the Abilene Christian Wildcats for a game on Tuesday, November 19 at 6 p.m. at the United Supermarkets Arena. The two teams last played on December 29, 2018 with the Lady Raiders coming out on top by a 105-54 score.
Texas Tech is coming off a tough victory against the Washington State Cougars last Saturday. In the game, both Jasmine Shavers and Bailey Maupin scored in double-figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Junior Sarengbe Sanogo followed with eight points and added a career-high of four blocks. In addition, Shavers and Kilah Freelon led the way with five rebounds each.
Shavers has had back-to-back games helping the team to a fourth-quarter spark. Against New Mexico, she scored all 18 of her points in the second half and 13 in the fourth quarter to aid Tech to a win. Then, she scored nine fourth-quarter points and 11 of her 13 points in the second half against Washington State. Early in the fourth period, Shavers nailed a 3-pointer out of a timeout to spark a 10-0 run for the Lady Raiders.
The Lady Raiders currently average 6.0 blocks per game, which ranks 19th nationally and third in the Big 12. Sanogo averages 3.0 blocks per game, leading the team in that category, while ranking ninth nationally and third in conference in blocks per game. She also ranks 11th in the nation and third in the Big 12 with 12 total blocks.
The Lady Raiders are only allowing opponents 52.0 points per game, ranking 37th in the country in that category. Tech is also forcing 22.5 turnovers per game and hold a turnover margin of 7.25, which rank 46th and 48th in the NCAA, respectively.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Abilene Christian is coming into Tuesday's game with an overall 2-2 record, getting wins over Southwest (N.M.) by a 95-38 score and Florida International by a score of 76-73. The Wildcats have lost two games in a row to Stephen F. Austin, 65-68, and to North Texas, 60-71. ACU is led in points by three Wildcats who average double-digit scoring – Bella Earle (17.5), Payton Hull (15.5) and Natalia Chavez (10.0). Earle also leads the way by averaging 7.8 rebounds per game followed by Meredith Mayes with 7.0. As a team, Abilene Christian is averaging 72.0 points per game and holding opponents to 62.5 points per game. The Wildcats are shooting 40 percent from the field, averaging 38.3 rebounds per game and 15.8 assists per game.
