Lady Raiders on the road against Oklahoma State

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders continue Big 12 play as they head to Stillwater, Okla., for a game against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls this Wednesday, January 10 at 6:30 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowgirls hold an all-time 35-38 record over the Lady Raiders (13-3, 2-1 Big 12). Oklahoma State is currently on an eight-game win streak against Texas Tech as the Cowgirls have won the past eight contests dating back to Feb. 9, 2019.
Tech is coming off a 73-64 victory against the Kansas Jayhawks last Saturday where sophomore Jasmine Shavers led the team in scoring with 25 points for her team-best fourth 20+ point game of the season. In the game, she went 8-of-15 (.533) from the field while connecting with 3-of-5 (.600) from beyond the arc and with all six of her free throws. She also was one rebound away from getting a double-double as she had a team-high nine boards.
Texas Tech also made a season-high 11 3-pointers in their game against Kansas. The last time Tech made 11 or more threes in a game was against K-State on Feb. 5, 2023. This is also just the third time this season Tech has recorded double-digit 3-pointers in a game after recording 10 against UTRGV and at Houston.
The Lady Raiders are led in scoring by Bailey Maupin with 15.3 points per game, followed by Shavers with 15.2. Sophomore Kilah Freelon is right behind as she tallies 8.8 points per game and leads the team with 5.9 rebounds per game. In addition, both Shavers and Jordyn Merritt are averaging 5.4 boards per game while Maupin leads the team with 62 assists.
The Lady Raiders defense this season has been impressive as the team ranks 29th in the NCAA in 3-point percentage defense, holding opponents to just 26 percent from behind the arc. Texas Tech is forcing 21.19 turnovers per game which is good for 24th in the country. The Lady Raiders have also forced 20 or more turnovers in 10 games so far, while forcing an average of 19.00 turnovers per game in conference play.
In addition to defense, the Lady Raiders are pretty good at getting to the free-throw line as they are 33rd in the nation in free throw attempts per game (21.12). They are also ranked 19th nationally with 15.94 free throws made per game. Maupin has a knack at drawing fouls as she checks in at fifth nationally and first in the Big 12 with 80 free throws made. Tech's 75.4 percent from the free throw line is also good for 56th in the NCAA and first in conference.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Oklahoma State Cowgirls are coming into the game with a 9-5 overall record and are 2-1 in Big 12 play. Some key wins have come against Wyoming (78-62), UCF (68-61) and No. 23 TCU (67-59). The Cowgirls have lost to Colorado (75-86), Penn State (80-89), Ohio State (57-75), Oregon (63-70) and Iowa State (68-76). As a team, the Cowgirls are ranked 57th in the country in field goal percentage as they are shooting 45 percent on the season. They also check in at No. 55 in the nation in 3-pointers made per game with 7.8. Oklahoma State is averaging 74.4 points per game while limiting opponents to 66.1 points per game. There are currently five Cowgirls who average double-figure scoring so far this year – Stailee Heard (14.7), Hannah Gusters (14.3), Anna Gret Asi (14.2), Quincy Noble (11.4) and Lior Garzon (11.0). Heard also leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per game, followed by Chandler Prater who has 6.0.
