
Lady Raiders head to Norman for ITA Kickoff Weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lady Raiders women's tennis team is traveling to Norman, Okla., for ITA Kickoff Weekend this Saturday and Sunday, January 28-29.
First, Tech will face Tulsa on Saturday at 11 a.m., then will play either No. 17 Oklahoma or Minnesota on Sunday at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m.
The Lady Raiders are coming off a 3-0 weekend after knocking off Incarnate Word, Abilene Christian and UTEP by a combined score of 20-1. The team also went 17-1 in dual singles matches and 6-1 in dual doubles matches.
Four Lady Raiders are 3-0 in dual singles – Arina Oreshchenkova, Avelina Sayfetdinova, Camryn Stepp and Cristina Tiglea. In addition, the doubles teams of Tiglea and Olivia Peet as well as Oreshchenkova and Stepp went undefeated in doubles as they posted a 2-0 and 3-0 record, respectively.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Lady Raiders are set to face 3-seeded Tulsa on Saturday. The Golden Hurricanes are 3-1 on the season with wins over Omaha, Louisiana Tech and Wyoming, and a 6-1 loss to Oklahoma State. In those wins, Tulsa only gave up one point. The Golden Hurricanes are led in singles by Myroslava Zelenchuk, who is 11-3 on the year and 3-1 in dual matches. The doubles pair of Zelenchuk and Amy Leather are 7-2 overall and 4-0 in dual matches.
The Red Raiders will face either Oklahoma or Minnesota the following day. Oklahoma comes into the weekend ranked 17th in the country. The Sooners are 3-2 overall with win against Missouri, Tarleton State and Wyoming. They dropped two-ranked matches against No. 20 Michigan and No. 17 Ohio State by score of 5-2. Two Sooners are ranked in singles as Alexandra Pisareva checks in at 86 and Carmen Corley is ranked 91st. The duo of Pisareva and Layne Sleeth are also ranked No. 22.
Minnesota is opening its dual season with a match against Oklahoma on Saturday. Last season, the Golden Gophers went 18-10 overall and 6-7 in the Big 10. Minnesota returns Vasia Karvouni, who led the team in singles wins last year with 22. Currently, they have one doubles team ranked by the ITA as Anet Koskel and Zoey Weil sit at No. 44.
