
Red Raiders Fall to Cowboys in First Round of Big 12 Tennis Championships

WACO, Texas – No. 21 Texas Tech men's tennis fell to No. 22 Oklahoma State in the Big 12 tournament 4-3 Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
The doubles action started the match to a furious pace. The Red Raiders feel behind, dropping the first match on court one. Tech quickly bounced back with junior Dimitrios Azoides and senior Ilgiz Valiev knocking off Luke Hammond and Mathieu Scaglia on court three. The coveted doubles point came down to court two with Henrik Korsgaard and Dominik Kellovsky besting the Tech tandem of sophomore Reed Collier and junior Isaac Arevalo 6-4.
The slugfest continued into singles play with close matchups across the board. Collier evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Mathieu Scaglia. The momentum of the match quickly changed in the Red Raiders' direction with wins by Arevalo and Azoides, 7-5, 6-0 and 6-1, 7-5, respectively. Tech held a 3-2 lead needing just one more win to clinch the match. Solid play from No. 47 Matej Vocel and Henrik Korsgaard saw them both overcome first set losses to secure the win for the Cowboys.
The Red Raiders will now wait for the NCAA Tournament selection show, set for Monday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m.
