Red Raiders down Mavericks, move to 5-2.
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Red Raiders continued their winning ways as they fought to knock off the Mavericks, 4-0.Â
Â
Texas Tech came out swinging from the coin toss. Tech won an early doubles point as Parker Wynn and Franco Ribero aided in snagging a doubles point for the Red Raiders with a score of 6-3.Â
Â
Singles continued with Junior Reed Collier and Isacc Arevalo securing victories in their matches, with a score of (6-2, 6-0) and (6-3, 6-2) respectively. Junior Ilgiz Valiev wrapped up another victory for the Red Raiders tallying a score of (6-3, 6-4).Â
Â
Head coach Danny Whitehead was proud of the way his team played after uncertainty within the schedule all week.Â
Â
"UTA fights hard and has some strong spots," said Whitehead. "You have to be ready to play this team, I think our guys have handled another schedule change and changing days and plans and prepared themselves very well mentally to be ready to compete today."
Â
Coach Whitehead is looking for the chance for his team to improve on Sunday.Â
"We have a good opportunity for us tomorrow against a very tough Tulane team," he said.Â
Tech will remain on the road as they take on Tulane in a neutral site match tomorrow in Dallas, Texas at 3 p.m.
