Tomlin returns to postseason with Braves, two others to coach in postseason.
LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Texas Tech pitcher Josh Tomlin highlights three Red Raider standouts who reached the Major League Baseball Postseason and open play Wednesday in the new best-of-three Wild Card Series format.
Tomlin returns to the postseason for the second year in a row with the Atlanta Braves, who earned the No. 2 seed in the National League behind a 35-25 record and an NL East crown. The 11-year veteran was second on the team with 39.2 inning pitched, bouncing between a reliable option out of the bullpen and a starting role. He take a 2-2 record and 4.76 ERA into the postseason.
The Braves host the Cincinnati Reds starting Wednesday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN. Game 2 and an 'if necessary' Game 3 would take place the next two days, although game times will not be decided until after Wednesday's action.
Meanwhile in the coaching ranks, Stubby Clapp (Cardinals) and Josh Bard (Dodgers) make their postseason debut with their respective clubs. Clapp's fifth-seeded Cardinals travel to San Diego to face the Padres starting Wednesday at 4 p.m. on ESPN2. Bard and the Dodgers, who posted the best record in baseball at 43-17, host the Brewers Wednesday at 9 p.m. CT on ESPN.
