Men’s Tennis Starts Strong at Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational

Ronit Bisht, Jackson Cobb and Nikolas Moceanu each posted their first career wins as Red Raiders.
MIDLAND, Texas – Ronit Bisht, Jackson Cobb, Carlos DiLaura and Nikolas Moceanu of the Texas Tech men's tennis team secured singles victories Friday to open the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas.
Bisht, the event's top seed, dialed up a 6-3, 6-0 victory over UTA's Mauricio del Rio to advance to the Round of 16. DiLaura grinded out a 7-5, 6-2 decision against Max Sivalls of Auburn before falling to Wichita State's Haru Inoue in a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 battle.
Cobb and Moceanu came away with tightly-contested singles wins in super tiebreaks during the consolation round. Cobb outlasted Niko Agritelley of Abilene Christian by a 10-8 score, while Moceanu edged Wichita State's Vitor Mendes 10-7 in the breaker.
"It was a great day overall, and it was awesome that each guy could grab a win," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "That's always hard getting that first win on the board. It's like getting your first hit or sinking your first basket. All of guys competed really hard. They played aggressive, and wanted to take it from their opponents. Now, the goal is to be able to back it up. We have to bring it again tomorrow."
Doubles play was halted by darkness. Cobb and Moceanu trailed 4-3 but were on-serve versus Tommy Bennett and David Warren of Rice. Two rounds of doubles will start Saturday's action followed by two rounds of singles.
