LUBBOCK, Texas – Tickets are now on sale for Texas Tech baseball fans to watch the Red Raiders in the 17th annual Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic, which will be held March 3-5, 2017.
Â
The three-day, six-team, nine-game tournament is held at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros, every spring, and will pit the Red Raiders against Texas A&M on Friday, March 3 at 3:35 p.m., Ole Miss on Saturday, March 4, at 12:05 p.m. and LSU on Sunday, March 5, at 10:05 a.m.
Â
Texas Tech will be joined in the tournament by Big 12 foes TCU and Baylor, making the 2017 field arguably the strongest lineup in tournament history, with five teams that finished ranked in the top 25 in the USA Today Coaches final 2016 poll. Five of the six teams hosted NCAA Regionals last season, with four moving on to Super Regionals and Texas Tech & TCU both advancing to the College World Series.
Â
Adult and youth daily tickets and three-day tournament passes will be made available for purchase online at www.Astros.com/CollegeClassic. Fans can purchase premium tickets or group tickets, for groups of 20 or more, by calling 713-529-8030. Daily tickets purchased in advance are available for $19 for adults and $14 for youth (ages 14 and under). Three-day tournament passes can be purchased for $42 for adults and $24 for youth. Select parking in the Astros controlled lots will be sold for $20 (Diamond Lot) and $10 (Lot A).
Â
This year marks the second straight year that the tournament will carry the name the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic, which was set forth by a multi-year naming rights agreement between the Astros Foundation and Shriners Hospitals for Children®. The Astros Foundation will continue to operate the tournament and will donate $1 from the sale of each ticket directly to Shriners Hospitals as well as provide other fundraising and awareness opportunities.
Â
Tech has met Ole Miss just once previously in school history which came during Tech's historic first trip to the College World Series in 2014. Tech and LSU, meanwhile, will be facing each other for the first time ever on a baseball diamond. Â
Â
This is the first time in program history where the Red Raiders have made consecutive trips to the Shriners College Classic, known formerly as the Houston College Classic. It will be Tech's 10th all-time appearance in the event.
Â
The Red Raiders concluded the 2016 Shriners College Classic with a 2-1 showing with victories over then-No. 9 Houston as well as No. 6 Louisiana-Lafayette. Tech enters the 2017 event with wins in three of its last four games, all of which that have come against top-10 ranked opponents.
Â
The tournament's television schedule will be announced at a later date.
