Lady Raiders Head to Miami Thanksgiving Tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Lady Raider Basketball will celebrate Thanksgiving in Coral Gables, Fla., as the team is set to compete in the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament this weekend.

The Lady Raiders will face Fordham in the tournament opener set for Friday at 1 p.m. (CT). No. 21 Miami hosts Grambling State in the second game of the tournament. Depending on the outcome of both games, Texas Tech will face Grambling State or Miami on Sunday for an 11 a.m. tip.

The Lady Raiders enter the tournament after a 69-58 win over New Mexico on Sunday. Freshman Arella Guirantes recorded her first double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points and 13 rebounds. She was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week following her two outstanding performances against No. 24 Texas A&M and New Mexico.

Fordham enters the matchup after defeating Albany, 89-82, in double overtime. The Rams are now 3-1 on the season.

Freshman Arella Guirantes was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week for her performance against No. 24 Texas A&M and New Mexico. She averaged 19 points, eight rebounds and shot 69 percent from the field. Guirantes is the leading the Big 12 freshmen in scoring, averaging 16 points per game and shooting 53.1 percent from the field.
Sophomore Recee' Caldwell is the leading scorer in the league, averaging 26.0 points per game.
Texas Tech scored 90 points in back-to-back games for the first time since the 2003-04 season when the Lady Raiders defeated San Diego, 95-47, on Dec. 30, 2003, and Pepperdine, 94-53, on Jan. 4, 2004.
