Senior Hunter Hargrove goes 3-for-4 with two homers in Friday’s contest.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Red & Black series was clinched by the Black squad after a 5-3 victory in Friday's game four at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
Â
Senior infielder Hunter Hargrove was responsible for all five runs scored by the Black (3-1) team, driving in three and scoring two of his own. He would finish the day 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double. The Black squad has scored five or more runs in all four games of the series.
Â
The Red (1-3) team posted 10 hits, with three recording multi-hit performances in freshman infielders Grant Little & Josh Jung and sophomore outfielder Cody Farhat.
Â
Sophomores Erikson Lanning (Black) and Ryan Shetter (Red) got the starts on the mound in Friday's game. It was scoreless through the first two innings until back-to-back triples from freshman infielder Brian Klein & junior outfielder Connor Beck put Black up 1-0. The next batter, Hargrove, cracked a homer over the left field fence to complete the three-run third for the Black squad.
Â
Red would respond in the bottom half of the inning with two runs, after a single by Farhat and a pair of stolen bases set him up for the first run of the day. Later in the frame, sophomore Matt Bernstein reached on a fielder's choice, then was moved over by junior outfielder Tanner Gardner and driven in by freshman infielder Josh Jung after both tallied singles.
Â
Both teams scored again in the fifth inning, as Black got another home run from Hargrove, this time a solo shot. Red followed in the bottom of the frame as freshman catcher Michael Berglund opened the bottom of the inning with a double to left field. A single up the middle from Bernstein would score him to keep it a one-run game at 4-3.
Â
Black pushed their lead to 5-3 in the top of the sixth after sophomore outfielder Cameron Warren, who walked to reach base, was moved around to third by a Clay Koelzer single and then scored on an error.
Â
Although Shetter was charged with the loss, he rung up seven batters from the Black squad over four innings pitched. Lanning, who earned the win, struck out three over 3.1 IP.
