October 21, 2016 | Men's Tennis
The Red Raiders will have four singles players and three doubles teams in action on Saturday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team had four players advance in both singles and doubles at the ITA Texas Regionals presented by Oracle Friday at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center on the TCU campus.
Jolan Cailleau and Connor Curry secured dominant straight-set wins, while Carlos DiLaura and Alex Sendegeya wiped away one-set deficits to tuck away comeback victories in singles.
Cailleau improved to 6-2 on the fall season with a double bagel 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Baylor's Samuel May whereas Curry won his eighth match in 10 decisions with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Markus Kerner of SMU.
Sendegeya won 12 of the last 15 games after dropping the opening set to turn the tables 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 on Incarnate Word's Caleb Dyer. DiLaura grinded out a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 decision over Gabriel Borunda of UTSA.
"It was a decent first day," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "We had some guys who had good results and played well. We'll need to continue to show improvement in some areas as the competition keeps rising tomorrow."
The Red Raiders dialed up a 3-1 mark in doubles highlighted by Sendegeya and Bjorn Thomson, the event's No. 1 seed, who registered an 8-2 victory over Dyer and Ivanhoe Lissanevitch of Incarnate Word. Ronit Bisht and Curry along with Cailleau and DiLaura also picked up identical 8-4 wins against opponents from UTSA and Abilene Christian, respectively.
The four-day event continues with two rounds of singles and two rounds of doubles on Saturday. The singles and doubles champions qualify for the ITA National Indoors from November 3-6 in Flushing Meadows, New York.
