Curry Notches Two Wins for Men’s Tennis at Saint Francis/ITA All-American Championships
October 01, 2016 | Men's Tennis
Connor Curry will play for an opportunity to advance to the qualifying draw on Sunday.
TULSA, Okla. – Connor Curry put together a pair of strong performances to begin the run for the Texas Tech men's tennis team at the Saint Francis/ITA All-American Championships Saturday from the Case Tennis Center hosted by the University of Tulsa.
Curry raced out to a 4-0 advantage over Dayton's Jordan Benjamin during his opening round prequalifying match before Benjamin withdrew due to injury. He continued his dominant play en route to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Jonathan Sheehy of Abilene Christian in round two.
"Connor made a fast start to which will hopefully be a long week for him at the ITA's, Texas Tech assistant coach Jordan Szabo said. "He's playing great tennis this fall, and I know he'll leave it all out on the court again tomorrow."
Curry will square off versus Utah's Joe Woolley in Sunday's third round action. If Curry can collect two more wins on Sunday, he'll be one of 16 players to move into the qualifying round. Curry would join teammates Ronit Bisht, Jolan Cailleau, Alex Sendegeya and Bjorn Thomson for the qualifying draw.
