Texas Tech Eliminated from Big 12 Championship

Texas Tech's run at a Big 12 Championship ended with a 5-4 loss against Baylor on Friday afternoon at ONEOK Field.

TULSA, Okla. - Texas Tech had its run at a Big 12 Championship come to an end with a 5-4 loss against Baylor in day three at the tournament on Friday afternoon at ONEOK Field.
The Red Raiders fall to 31-24 overall on the season while playing in their 15th one-run contest. The Bears (23-31) advance to the bracket finals on Saturday facing Texas - who is unbeaten in the tournament.
Trailing by a run in the ninth, sophomore pinch hitter Hunter Hargrove doubled down the left-field line with one out. Junior Cory Raley grounded back to the pitcher and junior outfielder Tyler Neslony grounded out to the shortstop to end the game with Hargrove left at third base.
Baylor scored four of its five runs in the opening three frames while the Red Raiders left runners in scoring position on six occasions.
Sophomore left-handed pitcher Dylan Dusek (2-2) took the loss while allowing three runs on five hits in two innings with two strikeouts and a walk.
Baylor right-handed pitcher Nick Lewis (4-2) pitched into the ninth inning going 8.1 innings allowing four runs -two earned - on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk. He threw 105 pitches while recording the first out of the ninth and also allowing the double to Hargrove before being taken out of the game.
Bears closer Sean Spicer picked up his eighth save of the season retiring Raley and Neslony in order to end the game.
Neslony led Tech going 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI while five other Red Raiders had base hits and two other Tech players finished with an RBI.
Trailing 3-0 in the third, Neslony scored a pair of runs with an RBI double down the left-field line to cut Baylor's lead to a run, 3-2.
Baylor added to its lead with a run in the third for a 4-2 advantage before Tech freshman third baseman Tanner Gardner hit a line shot over the right-field wall for a solo home run - his third homer of the season, to bring Tech within a run, 4-3.
Baylor scored the eventual game-winning run in the seventh as the Bears manufactured a lead-off single with a stolen base, sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly to take a 5-3 lead.
Tech's final run of the game came in the eighth when pinch hitter Anthony Lyons reached on a fielding error by Baylor third baseman Duncan Wendel. Lyons then scored all the way from first on Gutierrez' RBI double down the left-field line.
TEXAS TECH - BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES -
