Jackson Wins Consolation Backdraw at OU Classic

Freshman Katelyn Jackson improved to 5-2 on the young season after claiming the backdraw title at the OU Classic on Sunday.

NORMAN, Okla. - Texas Tech freshman Katelyn Jackson battled back from a first set deficit to pull out a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Maria Panaite of Kansas State in the consolation finals of the Stoops Draw of the OU Classic held at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday.
Jackson, who lost her opening round match to Oklahoma's Malene Stripp, ripped off three straight wins to capture the backdraw title.
Sunday's other winner was freshman Sarah Dvorak, who captured the consolation final of the Boomer Draw with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Morgan Chumney. Teammate Hortense Boscher fell to Kansas' Belen Luduena, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the Boomer Draw seventh place match.
In doubles action, Jackson and Samantha Czarniak Rego lost to Julia Schiller and Gabrielle Porubin of Wichita State. 8-2, in the Crimson Draw semifinals. Dvorak and Boscher did not fair any better, as the Tech duo lost a hard-fought 8-7 match to Arkansas' Mia Jurassic and Makenzie Craft in a Crimson Draw consolation match.
Texas Tech will return to action at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., at the Riviera Tennis Club.
The Red Raiders will be represented by senior Kenna Kilgo and sophomore Lynn Kiro. The pair will begin play on Saturday in the prequalifying singles portion of the tournament. Kilgo and Kiro are also listed as the first alternate in the doubles portion of prequalifying.
