The Texas Tech Men's Golf team has debuted at No. 16 nationally in the first team rankings of the season by Golfweek Magazine.
Four seniors in Clement Sordet, Matias Dominguez, Esteban Restrepo and Henry Todd lead the Red Raiders while Hannes Ronneblad returns for his sophomore season. Pereira Guillermo, a freshman from Santiago, Chile, is currently ranked 19th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Guillermo is the highest ranked golfer to ever attend Texas Tech and was the top ranked incoming freshman, according to the World Amateur Golf Rankings, to come to college in the United States this year.
The No. 16 ranking is Tech's highest since the 2010 season when the Red Raiders advanced to match play at the NCAA Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Texas Tech's 2014-15 schedule is also No. 1 in the country according to the Golfweek rankings. The Red Raiders opened their season on Labor Day weekend at the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach where they finished tied for fourth.
The road to the NCAA Championships will go through Lubbock this year as Texas Tech will host its first NCAA Men's Golf Regional on the Texas Tech campus. The NCAA Regional will be held at The Rawls Course, May 14-16.
