Lady Raiders Close Play In Midland
September 14, 2014 | Women's Tennis
MIDLAND, Texas - Samantha Czarniak Rego and Katelyn Jackson each won a pair of matches at the rain-shortened Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational at the Midland Racquet Club over the weekend.
Rain cancelled all matches on Friday, forcing the women to play pro sets for the remainder of the event.
In Flight 1, Czarniak Rego topped Mahitha Dadireddy of Tulsa in the Round of 64 and then upended Natasha Smith of New Mexico in the Round of 32. Her run ended in the Round of 16 when TCU's Seda Arantekin pulled out an 8-5 victory.
In Flight 2, Jackson def. Kansas' Lauren Pickens, 8-1, in the Round of 16, before falling to Penn State's Kim Surin. Jackson rebounded to topple Melinda Johnson of Kansas, 8-2, in a consolation match.
