Samantha Czarniak Rego is one of two Lady Raiders headed to Midland to compete in the Racquet Club Collegiate.
MIDLAND, Texas - No. 30 Texas Tech will begin the 2014-15 season this weekend with a pair of players competing in the prestigious Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational held at the Midland Racquet Club.
"We are excited to get the new season underway," said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. "We have a full slate of tournaments this fall, starting in Midland. Right now it is about gaining experience for the spring season."
Heading to Midland are sophomore Samantha Czarniak Rego and freshman Katelyn Jackson.
Czarniak Rego was 11-12 last season in singles after going 7-5 in dual matches. The sophomore was 3-5 in doubles play.
Jackson, a five star recruit and the No. 1 junior in Arkansas, went 6-3 on the ITA Summer Circuit, while adding a 9-3 mark in doubles action.
Czarniak Rego will begin play on Friday in the Flight 1 Round of 64 against Tulsa's Mahitha Dadireddy. A win for Czarniak Rego would pit the sophomore against either SMU's Yana Erkeeva or ninth-seeded Natasha Smith of New Mexico.
Jackson opens against Kansas' Lauren Pickens on Friday in the Flight 2 Round of 16. A win would pit Jackson against either North Texas' Franziska Sprinkmeyer or Penn State's Kim Surin.
Czarniak Rego will team with Jackson in doubles, with the two opening play in the Round of 32 against North Texas' Sprinkmeyer and Alexis Thoma.
