FULLERTON, Calif. - Sydni Emanuel connected on a two-run triple in the second inning Saturday afternoon to give Texas Tech a lead it would not relinquish as the Red Raiders topped UNLV, 7-2, at Anderson Family Field.
The victory extended Tech's winning streak to 11-straight heading into the Titans Classic finale later this afternoon against host Cal State Fullerton. It is the longest winning streak for the Red Raiders (21-6) since Tech won 13-straight from March 12-April 1, 2012.
Emanuel's triple was her team-leading third of the season and second already this weekend. She scored Samantha Camello and Brittany Lee on the hard-hit liner that rolled to the fence in center field.
Emanuel and fellow freshman Cassie McClure both finished 2-for-4 at the plate while combining to drive in five of Tech's seven runs. It was the 12th multiple-hit game already this year for Emanuel, who also stole a pair of bases, giving her 22 now for the season.
McClure recorded three RBI for her third multiple-RBI game this season. She scored Emanuel with a RBI single in the first and then added a two-run double that was part of a three-run sixth inning.
Kierra Miles and Sydnie Tapia both added RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings for the Red Raiders, who totaled 10 hits in the game. Tapia's single extended her career-best hitting streak to 10-straight in her final plate appearance of the day.
Tech starter Gretchen Aucoin (7-2) picked up the win in the circle, allowing one earned run off three hits in five innings before Cara Custer relieved her early in the sixth to collect her first save of the season.
UNLV (9-16) scored its two runs off a Pauline Monreal sacrifice fly in the first and an Emily Haslinger solo home run in the second inning. Haslinger's homer was one of just three hits for the Rebels.
Amanda Oliveto (4-9) took the loss for UNLV in a short outing where she allowed three runs off five hits in her 1.1 innings. Alex Petrolia came on in relief for four innings, giving up four runs, two of which were earned, before Morgan Ettinger recorded the final two outs in the sixth.
Tech and host Cal State Fullerton were scheduled to begin in a 4:30 p.m. CT first pitch.
