LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Texas Tech junior Henry Todd posted four birdies and just one bogey on his way to a 3-under par 68 on Tuesday as the Red Raiders moved three spots up the leaderboard to a tie for seventh in the second round of The Prestige at PGA West.
The No. 42 Red Raiders shaved 10 strokes from its first round score for a 2-under 282 team total on Tuesday - bringing its two-day total to 6-over 574. Tech is tied with No. 22 USC and six shots clear of No. 31 Arizona State. The Red Raiders are just six shots out of a tie for fifth with No. 23 UCLA and seven shots shy of fourth.
Todd is tied for 19th individually at even par (74-68--142). He scored consecutive 34s on each nine on Tuesday, making par on his first seven holes before birdying the par-5, 8th. Todd added back-to-back pars on 11 and 12 and finished birdie, par, par on his final three holes.
Matias Dominguez duplicated his first day with another 1-over 72 while Esteban Restrepo and Todd each improved by six shots from the previous day. Restrepo played a steady second round with 13 pars, three birdies and just two bogeys for a 1-under 70.
Freshman Corbin Kasten, who led the Red Raiders in the first round, followed his even par 71 with a 1-over 72 on Tuesday to move to a tie for 24th.
Junior Clement Sordet rounded out the team scores with a 3-over 74 while Hannes Ronneblad, playing as an individual this week, improved one shot with a 2-over 73.
Tech will begin the final round at 7:33 a.m. PST (9:33 a.m. CST) on Wednesday and will play alongside No. 22 USC and No. 31 Arizona State. Fans can keep up with the team each day with live scoring updates at www.golfstat.com.
