LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Texas Tech volleyball senior Rachel Brummitt was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Southwest Region Honorable Mention, the AVCA announced on Tuesday.
This is just another in the line of awards for Brummitt, who already earned All-Big 12 honors along with her two weekly conference awards this season. Brummitt was also an AVCA All-Region performer in 2013, making the first team. She is only the second Red Raider in history to earn back-to-back AVCA All-Region honors, joining Lisa Hilgers who accomplished the feat in 1997 and 1998.
The staff, team and I all share a big congratulations to Rachel for all of the accolades she continues to receive," Texas Tech head coach Don Flora said. "She has been a great representative of this program both on and off the court. She has been a constant example of hard work paying off.
Brummitt logged 510 digs in 2014, at a clip of 4.86 digs per set, both of which were top-three marks in the Big 12. She broke her own Big 12 four-set record with 39 digs in a match against Air Force. Brummitt registered at least 20 digs in 12 different matches in 2014.
She brought her career total to 1,624 digs, breaking the Tech all-time record in just three seasons, and she also became the first Red Raider to record at least 500 digs in three different seasons. Brummitt's three seasons at Tech are the three-highest single-season dig totals in program history.
