TEXAS TECH - TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN POSTGAME QUOTES
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2014
Candi Whitaker
Head Coach
Opening Statement
"Rough game back. Not real happy with how we played on either end. There were some pieces that we looked like we practiced, but happy we could get a win. We have to be much better and we know that."
On 3-pointers:
"I thought we were open. I thought we had good looks and our feet were set. There weren't too many threes that I wasn't happy with. I would have had them shoot it again. But I think we just shot it badly. I think sometimes you do that and you've got to find other ways to get to the free-throw line and make free throws and get it inside, get it to second and third sides, attack and find other ways to keep shooting it with confidence. Just didn't shoot it well from three today."
On if the long layoff had any effect on the team:
"I do. I don't like a 10-day break like we had. I think it's too long. I thought we practiced really well for the first six or seven (days). I was really happy with our practice for the first week, and then it just started to get bad. I think it's too long. We need to try to get a game immediately after finals and try to shorten that as much as we can. I think you can go too long and I felt like that's why we were a little rusty."
On second half free-throw shooting:
"The first half was bad and the second half was good. We got them into foul trouble so early in the second half and were in the bonus and did a much better job taking advantage there."
On what to get ready before Big 12 play begins in January:
"We'll continue to focus on the games in front of us as we prepare, but always keeping in mind Big 12 play. And our team knows we have to be much better. There's no question. We can't play like we did today, you can't execute like we did today with a lack of energy. And this team sometimes rises to their competition and not. I've seen both sides of them. So we'll just continue to work on all the same things that we do and the fundamentals, rebounding and trying to keep people off the boards, and neutralize things where we can."
Dayo Olabode
Freshman Forward
On what was working well down in the paint for her:
"Mostly they were giving me the baseline. So I was just attacking as much as I could. Of course, sometimes when I dribbled too much, they got it from me but mostly I was able to get open on the baseline."
Amber Battle
Senior Guard
On 3-pointers being a problem today:
"I just don't think we were executing as well as we could have been and we were not running our plays fully. You know when we get to three sides of the floor and have an open shot, but we were just rushing things a lot."
On if the long layoff had any effect on the team:
"I just think we didn't come out with as much energy as we needed to from the beginning and that really effected us."
On if they worked any extra on free throws this week:
"Not really. But that's just something we have to go up there and be confident about and they're free. So we just need to make them."
On answering better to the press by an opponent next time:
"I think just being more patient you know get open at a good spot. We have guards that can attack. We just have to get to our right spots and be patient."
