TEXAS TECH IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
? Texas Tech is in the second round of the NCAA Championship for a third-consecutive season. The Red Raiders previously fell to No. 2 seed Florida State, 3-2, in 2012 and tied No. 4 seed Texas A&M, 2-2, a year ago before falling in penalty kicks.
? Texas Tech is the No. 3 seed in the regional, marking the first time the Red Raiders have ever earned a national seed for the NCAA Championship.
? Texas Tech is 3-1-1 all-time in the NCAA Championship following its 8-0 rout of Prairie View A&M in last Friday's opening round match.
? Texas Tech is outscoring opponents, 17-5, all-time in the NCAA Championship, including a 13-0 advantage against non-seeded teams in the tournament.
? Texas Tech has scored at least two goals in all five of its previous NCAA Championship matches.
? Friday will mark Texas Tech's second ever postseason match against a current member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Red Raiders previously finished in a 2-2 draw last season with Texas A&M.
? The Auburn match will be only the second neutral site contest all-time for Texas Tech in the tournament.
TEXAS TECH IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Texas Tech closed the regular season ranked No. 16 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire top-25 poll. The Red Raiders, who enter Friday's NCAA second round match against Auburn riding a six-match unbeaten streak, have been ranked in the poll all season, appearing as high as No. 6 in the rankings on Sept. 16. The No. 6 ranking, a spot Tech held for two full weeks, was the highest in school history. Tech has now been in the NSCAA top-25 poll for a school-record 23-consecutive weeks dating back to the 2013 season. The Red Raiders are also 11th in the latest poll by Top Drawer Soccer and 18th in the rankings compiled by Soccer America.
INSIDE THE AUBURN SERIES
Friday afternoon's NCAA second round match will be the third meeting all-time between Texas Tech and Auburn. The Red Raiders will be looking for their first ever victory over the Tigers as Auburn defeated the Red Raiders in both 2009 (3-2) and 2012 (2-1). This will be the first time the two schools have met at a neutral site as each of the previous two meetings took place at Auburn.
TEXAS TECH ALL-TIME AGAINST THE SEC
The Red Raiders will look Friday for their first victory over an original member the Southeastern Conference (SEC) since 2010 (not including Missouri or Texas A&M) when Texas Tech downed Mississippi, 2-0, at the Inn at Saint Mary's Classic hosted by Notre Dame. Tech is 12-42-2 all-time against current members of the SEC. This is the first time that the Red Raiders have faced a SEC opponent since Texas Tech faced former Big 12 member Texas A&M in the NCAA second round last year. That match ended in a 2-2 draw that saw the Aggies advance on penalty kicks.
RED RAIDERS EXPLODE FOR EIGHT GOALS IN NCAA OPENER
Texas Tech opened the NCAA Championship in style last Friday evening as the Red Raiders connected on eight goals in an 8-0 rout over Prairie View A&M. The rout marked the most goals ever by Tech in the NCAA Championship, breaking the previous mark of three set just a year ago against Minnesota. Tech and Virginia are currently tied for the most goals in this year's tournament as the Cavaliers also scored eight goals in their opening round thrashing of High Point.
RED RAIDERS BACK IN THE POSTSEASON ONCE AGAIN
Over the span of the past three seasons, the Texas Tech soccer program has established a new tradition - advancing to the NCAA Championship. Prior to 2012, the Red Raiders had not previously been selected to tournament in the history of the program. Texas Tech is one of two Big 12 programs to advance to the postseason in each of the past three seasons (West Virginia is the other). Tech is the only conference program to advance to the second round of the NCAA Championship in each of those three seasons.
BECKIE SNAPS TEXAS TECH CAREER RECORD FOR GOALS IN TOURNAMENT OPENER
Janine Beckie made Texas Tech history in the NCAA Championship opener against Prairie View A&M as the junior recorded her first career hat trick which helped her snap the Texas Tech career goal record in the process. Beckie, who leads the Big 12 Conference with 16 goals already this season, has connected on 42 goals now in her career, one more than Kristy Frantz, who originally set the school record with 41 goals from 1996-99. Her hat trick against Prairie View marked the 11th match she has scored in this season, which includes six of the past 10 matches. It was the fourth multiple-goal performance of the year for Beckie, who has six goals in Tech's last four matches. Beckie moved into the top five in school history for career goals earlier this season, passing the likes of Jessica Fuston (2010-13), Amy Rustein (1995-98) and Kristi Patterson (1994-96). Beckie is the only player in school history to record 10 or more goals in at least three seasons as she totaled 14 as a freshman in 2012 and 12 a year ago.
